Why is the Left suddenly concerned about the future of democracy?
You wreck stuff and then you ignore it, panicking when people notice. This allows you to wreck more stuff without feeling guilty.
Democrats such as Sen. Dick Durbin (D-NY) continue to deny the need to address concerns of the American people and, as a result, face a likely GOP landslide in November. Out of the blue, we are seeing and hearing very nearly every powerful person on the Fascist Left in the U.S. talking about “democracy.” Democracy, our sacred democracy, they bloviate while decrying the alleged “right wing threat” to that democracy. We hear the word everywhere, from The Atlantic to NPR to The New Yorker magazine and NBC News in between. Democracy defines the year 2022 the way that “groovy” defined 1968.
All the cool kids are saying it. Suddenly it is the life mission of Liz Cheney to defend democracy. In his new assignment hosting “CNN Newsroom” on the weekends, former White House correspondent Jim Acosta uses the word “democracy” the way some people use prepositions ― in every sentence. Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern, there was an open forum, unlimited attendance ZOOM webinar on Democracy, just in case you haven't heard enough about it already. Every left-of-center nitwit on Twitter will be there. All of them will be fretting about the future of democracy.
It’s all very amusing and it's easy to make fun of such an event. We have a moral obligation to do so.
Being honest about it, though, if these people are even the least bit worried about our democracy’s health, shouldn’t they know how healthy is our democracy?
Despite all evidence to the contrary about how healthy is democracy, some are warning about its possible erosion in 2024. Others predict the democracy downturn as early this year, with scary scenarios of “autocracy” and Trump “coups.” What is behind recent pessimistic appraisals of democracy’s future, from Hillary Clinton, Adam Schiff, Brian Williams and other self-important Leftist elites, pseudo-intellectuals, media personalities and politicians?
To answer that question, understand first what is not behind these shrill forecasts.
They are not worried about two million foreign nationals crashing the border in a single year, without vaccinations during a pandemic. Yet it seems insurrectionist for a government simply to nullify its own immigration laws.
They are not worried that some 800,000 foreign nationals, some residing illegally, will now vote in New York City elections.
They are not worried that there are formal efforts to dismantle the U.S. Constitution by junking the 233-year-old Electoral College or the preeminence of the states in establishing ballot laws in national elections.
They are not worried that we are witnessing an unprecedented Fascist Left effort to scrap the 180-year-old filibuster, the 150-year-old nine-person Supreme Court, and the 60-year tradition of 50 states, for naked political advantage.
They are not worried that the Senate last year put on trial an impeached ex-president and private citizen, without the chief justice in attendance, without a special prosecutor or witnesses, and without a formal commission report of presidential high crimes and misdemeanors.
They are not worried that the FBI, Justice Department, CIA, Hillary Clinton, and members of the Obama Administration systematically sought to use U.S. government agencies to sabotage a presidential campaign, transition, and presidency, via the use of a foreign national and ex-spy Christopher Steele and his coterie of discredited Russian sources.
They are not worried that the Pentagon suddenly has lost the majority support of the American people. Top current and retired officers have flagrantly violated the chain-of-command, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and without cause, data or evidence have announced a hunt in the ranks for anyone suspected of “white rage” or “white supremacy.”
They are not worried that in 2020, a record 64 percent of the electorate did not cast their ballots on Election Day, nor are they worried that the usual error rate in most states of non-Election Day ballots plunged — even as an unprecedented 101 million ballots were cast by mail or early voting.
They are certainly not worried that partisan billionaires of Silicon Valley poured well over $400 million into selected precincts in swing states to “assist” public agencies conduct the election.
What then is behind this new Leftist hysteria about the supposed looming end of democracy?
It is quite simple. The Left expects to lose power over the next two years — both because of the way it gained and used it, and because of its radical, top-down agendas that never had any public support.
After gaining control of both houses of Congress and the presidency — with an obsequious media and the support of Wall Street, Silicon Valley, higher education, popular culture, entertainment and professional sports — the Left has managed in just 13 months to alienate a majority of voters.
Crime rates, particularly for violent crime, have exploded across major U.S. cities since Biden took office. The increases in murder, rape and assault have alarmed citizens in all socioeconomic demographics. The nation has been wracked by unprecedented crime and a total abandonment of any effort to enforce the security of our national border. Leftist district attorneys either won’t indict criminals. They let them out of jails or they do both.
Illegal immigration and inflation are soaring. Deliberate cuts in gas and oil production helped to spike fuel prices.
All this bad news is on top of the Afghanistan disaster, worsening racial relations, and an enfeebled president.
Democrats are running 10 points behind the Republicans in generic polls—with the midterms less than a year away.
Joe Biden’s negatives run between 50 and 57 percent — in Donald Trump’s own former underwater territory. Less than a third of the country wishes Biden to run for reelection. In many head-to-head polls, Trump now defeats Biden.
In other words, Leftist elites are terrified that democracy will work too robustly.
Another way to describe democracy is popular representation. It's a synonym. When the government does what citizens want it to do, you have a democracy. And when it doesn't, you don't. You no longer have a free country that is ruled by its people.
So, what kind of system do we have? It's easy to examine and discover. Polling works to find out what citizens care about. Those concerns are then compared to what the Executive and Legislative branches of government claim they care about. If the democracy is functioning as it should, there will be a fairly precise overlap. In a healthy democratic republic, executives and legislators try very hard to speak for their voters. That's the whole point of the government.
When we apply that test to the United States of America, what do we find our leaders care about? We know the answer because they tell us constantly. Our leaders care about equity and climate change. They care about trans rights, “police brutality,” the deadly “insurrection” of January 6, 2021, mandatory vaccinations, more H1-B visas for Indian tech workers and above all, at the moment, defending our “closest ally,” Ukraine, from Russian aggression. Also, they care about third-wave academic feminism. That's deeply important to them.
For those who work in the media or have multiple college degrees, chances are they are accomplished at making it all about them. Their propensity for self-importance makes it easy. It is what they care about most.
What does the rest of America care about? Once again, we don't have to guess about that. We've got a huge amount of public opinion polling on that subject.
At the top of the list is government incompetence, the economy, the cost of living and immigration. Take note, it is completely different from the list Joe Biden might have made. Equity, climate change, transgenderism mandatory vaccination, January 6, Ukraine. Those trends are unimportant to most Americans, or at the very bottom of the list.
How can that be? If global climate change is the most imminent existential crisis of our time, then why don't voters seem concerned about it? We don't know, but they're definitely not concerned about it. Instead, Americans are very worried about inflation and crime. As it happens, those are the two topics the titularly Biden White House has dismissed recently as irrelevant and dumb. The White House isn't at all worried about inflation and crime.
Biden mouthpiece Jen Psaki went out of her way earlier this week to criticize Fox News for refusing to toe the White House version of what’s important. As all other networks were talking about Biden’s weak and ineffective saber-rattling at Russia by threatening to send troops to the region around Ukraine, Fox, however, was talking about the administration being soft on crime and listing the potential consequences.
Psaki referred to that as “alternate universe” reporting. Crime isn’t a problem, she claims, one has to be delusional to think otherwise. Yet right down the street from where Psaki lives in Georgetown, a man was shot to death in the early hours of the evening Monday outside Georgetown Cupcakes, which she has been known to patronize. Psaki made no mention of that incident in denying crime is a problem in the U.S.
Whatever you do if you want to continue denying crime is a problem, don't go to Baltimore, about 40 miles from where Jen Psaki lives. It's one of the worst places in the western hemisphere. It's a little bit of Haiti in the mid-Atlantic region of the eastern U.S.
Baltimore is exactly what happens when you apply Jen Psaki's ideas to governing. Baltimore is a city run by people who fervently believe in the equity agenda and consider gender studies a legitimate academic discipline. In Baltimore, pretty much everyone in charge is black, yet it's a matter of religious faith that the main thing holding the city back is white racism.
In other words, everybody with power in Baltimore agrees with Jen Psaki. It's an entirely fair question to ask “Hey, Jen Psaki, what do you think of Baltimore? How did the city get that way? You claim to care so deeply about African-Americans. You never stop talking about that, but here is one of the biggest black majority cities in the United States. Tens of thousands of black people who live in Baltimore are in misery because their kids keep getting murdered. Last year, Baltimore's murder rate was higher than it is in El Salvador and Honduras. Now those are countries the State Department tells us to ‘avoid due to crime.’”
The pitiful state of the Baltimore public schools is a major concern to all parents in the city who patronize them, yet local, state and federal officials don’t think education is a source of problems in the U.S. (Photo: Dani Estrada/Baltimore Sun) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Things are incredibly violent in Baltimore. They have been for a long time. Yet under Joe Biden has somehow, inexplicably made them worse.
Education, another chief concern of the American electorate, is also ignored by the Fascist Left elites. Paterson High School students took the test 484 of them, or 77%, tested at an elementary school reading level that includes 71 high school students who are reading at a kindergarten level and 88 students reading at a first-grade level. Another 45 are reading at a second-grade level. Just 12 students tested at Paterson High School were reading at grade level. That comes out to less than two percent.
Sadly, it wholly accurate to say that the kids in Baltimore public schools can't read, they're illiterate. What is their future? What is Baltimore's future? What is the country's future? How are these young adults, whom our educators have utterly failed, going to participate in our society?
Knowing they have failed these students, the schools administration in Baltimore announced ignobly last years that, regardless of these students’ academic status, all would graduate. That is true even if they failed their all their courses.
Baltimore’s so-called chief academic officer ― that would be Harvard educated bureaucrat called Joan Dabrowski ― announced that this policy was designed to “avoid the punitive approach of failing students. But their grades indicate that someone in the school system is failing students in Baltimore. Somebody, in fact, is failing the entire city, and you have to ask yourself, who would that be?
Honestly, one would think that people on the Left would welcome a chance to reflect on what they've done. They have screwed up very badly. They've hurt the weakest among us. For Christians, that's the greatest sin. But these people aren't Christians. They worship only themselves, so they turn away.
You can bet money that Jen Psaki and others like her rarely goes to Baltimore. It's just too depressing. And it raises too many questions. Instead, Jen Psaki and her friends are planning their fun little summer trips to Bozeman or Martha's Vineyard or East Hampton, or some of the remote and blindingly white outposts of the “privilege” they constantly condemn.
After the Russian collusion hoax, the two impeachments, the Hunter Biden laptop stories, the staged melodramas of the Kavanaugh hearings, the Jussie Smollett con, the Covington kids smear, and the Rittenhouse race frenzy trial, the people are not just worn out by Leftist hysterias, they are equally weary of how the Left gains power and administers it.
If Joe Biden were polling 70 percent approval, and his policies 60 percent, the current doomsayers would be reassuring us of the “health of the system.” Instead, they are fearful and angry not because democracy does not work, but because it does, despite their own media and their political efforts to destroy it.
When a party becomes hijacked by radicals and uses almost any means necessary to gain and use power for agendas that few Americans support, then average voters express their disapproval. That reality apparently terrifies an elite — who then claims any system that allows the people to vote against the Left is not people power at all.
Funny how that works. You wreck stuff and then you ignore it, panicking when people notice. This allows you to wreck more stuff without feeling guilty.
That's modern progressivism distilled to its essence in 22 words.
